Pacaya, Sanctuary of Time itinerary, hour by hour

The deepest route in the reserve, along the Pacaya river. Seven days of navigation and camping all the way to PV17 Cahuana, the land of manatees and the great schools of paiche.

Day one

  • 06:00Pick-up in Iquitos.
  • 06:30Departure to Nauta.
  • 08:00Arrival in Nauta, with a regional breakfast.
  • 09:00Departure towards the Reserve by river boat, where the nature exploration experience begins.
  • 14:00Lunch on board.
  • 17:00Arrival at the town of Bretaña, a quiet place to rest and enjoy the rainforest.
  • 19:00Free time to relax.
  • 19:30Dinner.
  • 21:00Overnight stay at a local guesthouse in Bretaña, resting in a safe environment.

Day two

  • 07:00Breakfast.
  • 08:00Departure towards the Reserve, ready for a day of exploration.
  • 08:30Visit and registration at PV15 Pacaya, followed by a briefing on the biodiversity of the area.
  • 09:00Arrival at the Cocha Yanayacu camp.
  • 13:00Lunch, made with local ingredients.
  • 14:00Free time to rest and enjoy the surroundings.
  • 16:00Boat ride through the reserve, watching birds, capybaras and other fascinating animals that live in the area.
  • 18:00Rest, to relax and enjoy the calm of the natural surroundings.
  • 20:00Dinner.
  • 20:30Night boat ride, where you can observe nocturnal birds, a stunning starry sky, caimans and night monkeys.
  • 22:30Overnight stay at the camp.

Day three

  • 07:00Breakfast.
  • 08:00Departure towards the next destination.
  • 09:00Visit to PV16 Yarina, where you enjoy an introduction to the local biodiversity.
  • 10:00Rest time to relax.
  • 12:00Lunch.
  • 13:00Departure to the next activity.
  • 13:30Boat tour of Cocha Yarina, where you can observe a variety of birds, herons, taricaya turtles and monkeys. Enjoy a unique landscape as you cruise.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 19:30Departure to continue the night tour, where you can observe caimans, capybaras and schools of paiche, immersing yourself in the night-time atmosphere of the rainforest.
  • 21:30Return to the Cocha Yanayacu camp for the night.

Day four

  • 07:00Breakfast to start the day.
  • 08:00Departure to explore the rich biodiversity of the area and head to our next stop. Along the way you enjoy watching paiche, dolphins, manatees, schools of paiche and taricaya turtles in their natural habitat.
  • 14:00Arrival at PV17 Cahuana for the visit and registration at the checkpoint.
  • 14:30Lunch, followed by a rest to recharge your energy.
  • 16:00Boat ride to appreciate the area's wildlife and enjoy the stunning Amazonian sunsets.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 21:00Overnight stay at PV17 Cahuana, where you rest amid the serenity of the rainforest.

Day five

  • 05:00Early morning departure for birdwatching, exploring the rich biodiversity of the region and observing a variety of birds in their natural habitat.
  • 08:00Breakfast.
  • 09:00Visit to the Cahuana Tipishca, observing primates, birds, manatees and taricaya turtles in their natural setting.
  • 12:30Return to PV17 Cahuana to rest.
  • 13:00Lunch.
  • 15:00Demonstration fishing on the Pacaya river.
  • 17:30Return to PV17 Cahuana.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 20:00Departure on a night tour.
  • 21:00Return to PV17 Cahuana.
  • 21:30Overnight stay at PV17 Cahuana.

Day six

  • 07:00Breakfast at PV17 Cahuana.
  • 08:00Return to PV16 Yarina, with chances to observe monkeys, birds, caimans and taricaya turtles along the way.
  • 13:00Arrival at PV16 Yarina.
  • 13:30Lunch, followed by free time to relax before the afternoon activities.
  • 15:00Walk to Cocha Zapote along a trail where you can observe primates, birds and giant trees such as the majestic lupuna.
  • 16:00Canoe ride, exploring the surroundings of Cocha Zapote.
  • 18:00Return to PV16 Yarina.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 20:00Night hike to observe nocturnal mammals and experience the biodiversity of the area under a starry sky.
  • 21:00Overnight stay at PV16 Yarina.

Day seven

  • 07:00Breakfast.
  • 08:00Return to Nauta, the journey back while you enjoy the views and the biodiversity of the river.
  • 11:00Arrival at PV15 Pacaya for the checkpoint.
  • 14:00Lunch on board.
  • 16:00Arrival in Nauta.
  • 18:30Arrival in Iquitos, ending the trip.

What's included

  • Pick-up in Iquitos and transfer Iquitos – Nauta – Iquitos.
  • Boat trip along the Pacaya river, with registration at PV15 Pacaya and visits to PV16 Yarina and PV17 Cahuana.
  • 1 night at a local guesthouse in Bretaña, 2 nights at the Cocha Yanayacu camp, 2 nights at PV17 Cahuana and 1 night at PV16 Yarina.
  • Meals as per the itinerary, from breakfast on day 1 to lunch on board on day 7.
  • Day and night boat rides, a trip around Cocha Yarina and a visit to Tipishca Cahuana.
  • Walk to Cocha Zapote, canoe ride, night walk and a fishing demonstration on the Pacaya river.
  • Guide throughout the program.

Start: pick-up in Iquitos at 06:00. End: arrival in Iquitos at 18:30 on day 7.
