Samiria, Heart of the Reserve itinerary, hour by hour

A route unlike the others: we enter along the Samiria river and visit the PV04, PV06 and PV07 ranger posts, sleeping in a community and at a ranger station.

Day one

  • 06:00Pick-up of passengers in the city of Iquitos.
  • 06:30Departure to Nauta by road.
  • 08:00Arrival in Nauta and breakfast.
  • 09:00Departure towards the Reserve, cruising the rivers of the region to head into the rainforest.
  • 14:00Visit and registration at PV04 Samiria, where you have the chance to learn more about conservation.
  • 15:00Arrival at the community of San Martín de Tipishca, a small paradise in the middle of nature.
  • 15:30Lunch in the community.
  • 16:00Boat ride on the San Martín Tipishca, observing local wildlife, including dolphins and a great variety of Amazonian birds.
  • 18:00Return to the community, to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
  • 19:00Dinner at the local guesthouse.
  • 21:00Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

Day two

  • 07:00Breakfast in the community.
  • 08:00Departure towards the next destination, enjoying the scenery as we go.
  • 12:00Arrival at PV06 Tacshacocha, an ideal starting point for the rainforest adventure.
  • 13:00Lunch.
  • 14:00Rest, to enjoy the surroundings and relax before the next activity.
  • 15:00Walk along the nearby trails, where you can observe a variety of wildlife such as monkeys, birds, macaws, spix's guans and other guans.
  • 17:00Return to PV06 Tacshacocha, with free time to rest and make use of the facilities.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 20:00Night boat ride on the Samiria river, ideal for observing caimans and other nocturnal animals of the region, enjoying the calm of the rainforest night.
  • 22:00Return to PV06 and overnight stay.

Day three

  • 07:00Breakfast.
  • 08:00Departure towards the next destination, with panoramic views along the way.
  • 10:00Arrival at PV07 Ungurahui, with a guided visit and registration before continuing the exploration of the reserve.
  • 10:30Boat ride, with the chance to observe local wildlife and enjoy the natural scenery of the river.
  • 14:00Lunch.
  • 15:00Time to rest, relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
  • 16:00Demonstration fishing in the nearby waters, ideal for trying to catch species such as piranha and other native fish.
  • 17:00Return to PV06 Tacshacocha, making the most of the calm of dusk while cruising the river.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 20:00Night hike along the trails, exploring the rainforest in the dark and observing the nocturnal wildlife of the forest.
  • 22:00Return to PV06 and overnight stay.

Day four

  • 07:00Breakfast at PV06 Tacshacocha.
  • 08:00Return to the city of Nauta.
  • 12:00Arrival at PV04 Samiria for the checkpoint and registration.
  • 13:00Lunch on board, while cruising.
  • 15:30Arrival in Nauta.
  • 18:00Arrival in Iquitos, where the journey ends with a calm return.

What's included

  • Pick-up in Iquitos and road transfer Iquitos – Nauta – Iquitos.
  • Boat trip along the Samiria river, with registration at PV04 Samiria and a visit to PV07 Ungurahui.
  • 1 night at a local guesthouse in the San Martín de Tipishca community and 2 nights at PV06 Tacshacocha.
  • Meals as per the itinerary, from breakfast on day 1 to lunch on board on day 4.
  • Day and night boat rides, trail walks and a night walk.
  • Fishing demonstration.
  • Guide throughout the program.

Start: pick-up in Iquitos at 06:00. End: arrival in Iquitos at 18:00 on day 4.
