Eternal Rivers and Roots itinerary, hour by hour

Six days crossing the reserve from end to end, with nights at three different bases. The most complete route for spotting paiche, pink dolphins and water birds at Cocha El Dorado.

Day one

  • 06:00Pick-up of passengers in the city of Iquitos.
  • 06:30Departure to the city of Nauta by road.
  • 08:00Arrival in Nauta. Welcome and breakfast at a local restaurant.
  • 09:00Boarding a speedboat towards the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (Yanayacu Pucate sector).
  • 10:00Arrival at PV01 Yanayacu. Entry registration, briefing about the reserve and its rules of conduct.
  • 10:30River cruise and wildlife watching, where you can see pink and grey dolphins in their natural habitat while travelling the river surrounded by its great diversity of birds.
  • 13:00Arrival at the community of Yarina.
  • 14:00Regional lunch.
  • 15:00Free time to relax and capture the beauty of the landscape, the perfect moment to enjoy the calm surroundings and photograph the flora and fauna.
  • 16:30Visit to the community, where you can see sustainable management projects such as aguaje palm and taricaya turtles, and meet local residents to learn about their culture.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 20:30Night boat ride, where you can watch nocturnal birds, caimans and night monkeys and take in the starry sky, a unique experience for contemplating nature.
  • 22:30Overnight stay at Yarina Lodge.

Day two

  • 07:00Breakfast, with local options to start the day with energy.
  • 08:00Departure towards PV21 Achong, setting off on a journey in search of unique bird sightings, including the elegant herons.
  • 13:00Lunch on board, enjoying a light meal while cruising the channels of the rainforest.
  • 17:00Arrival at PV21 Achong, where we explore the area, with free time to rest and settle into the surroundings.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 19:30Night hike along the forest trail to observe night monkeys, tarantulas and snakes, going deep into the rainforest.
  • 21:00Overnight stay at the camp, surrounded by the night sounds of nature, to rest and recover your energy.

Day three

  • 06:00Departure towards Cocha El Dorado, enjoying the first moments of the morning as we head into the rainforest.
  • 07:00Wildlife watching along the way and a short snack on board.
  • 09:00Arrival at Cocha El Dorado and the Cantagallo camp, where we explore the surrounding area.
  • 13:00Lunch made with typical local ingredients.
  • 14:00Free time to rest and settle into the natural surroundings.
  • 15:00Boat ride along a stretch of Cocha El Dorado, where visitors have the chance to observe pink dolphins, paiche and characteristic birds such as wild ducks, cormorants, toucans, guans and neotropic cormorants.
  • 18:30Return to the camp to rest.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 20:30Night boat ride, where you can observe nocturnal birds, the starry sky, caimans and night monkeys, immersing yourself in the mystery of the rainforest.
  • 22:30Return to the camp and overnight stay.

Day four

  • 06:00Morning boat ride on Cocha El Dorado, where visitors can enjoy the sunrise over the calm waters, observing pink dolphins, several bird species and paiche in their natural habitat.
  • 09:00Breakfast at the camp.
  • 10:00Walk along the trail, exploring the jungle surroundings and observing a great variety of wildlife.
  • 14:00Lunch at the camp.
  • 15:00Free time to rest or enjoy the natural surroundings.
  • 16:00Demonstration fishing in the nearby waters, with the chance to catch fish species such as piranha, paco, sabalo, bujurqui and acarahuazu.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 20:30Night boat ride, where you can observe nocturnal birds, enjoy the starry sky and spot caimans and night monkeys.
  • 22:30Return to the camp and overnight stay.

Day five

  • 07:00Breakfast at the camp.
  • 08:00Return to the community of Yarina, a destination full of opportunities to observe Amazonian wildlife and plants at their most natural.
  • 13:00Lunch on board, enjoying a light meal while cruising through the beautiful landscapes of the region.
  • 17:00Arrival at the community of Yarina, where you can rest and enjoy the calm of the surroundings.
  • 19:00Dinner.
  • 21:00Overnight stay at Yarina Lodge, in a peaceful setting for resting, surrounded by the relaxing sounds of the rainforest.

Day six

  • 08:00Breakfast at Yarina Lodge.
  • 09:00Handicraft exhibitions, where you can admire and buy products made by the craftswomen of the community.
  • 10:00Boarding for the return journey to the city of Nauta.
  • 11:00Arrival at PV01 Yanayacu for the checkpoint.
  • 13:00Arrival in Nauta (optional lunch in Nauta, not included in the package) and departure to the city of Iquitos.
  • 15:00Arrival in Iquitos. End of the services.

What's included

  • Pick-up in Iquitos and road transfer Iquitos – Nauta – Iquitos.
  • Boat transport inside the reserve and registration at PV01 Yanayacu.
  • 2 nights at Yarina Lodge, 1 night of camping at PV21 Achong and 2 nights at the Cantagallo camp.
  • Meals as per the itinerary, from breakfast on day 1 to breakfast on day 6.
  • Day and night boat rides on Cocha El Dorado, a night walk and a trail walk.
  • Fishing demonstration, visit to the Yarina community and handicraft display.
  • Guide throughout the program.

Start: pick-up in Iquitos at 06:00. End: arrival in Iquitos at 15:00 on day 6.

  • Lunch in Nauta on day 6 (optional).
